Documental sobre la legendaria banda de Liverpool. Abarca las dos semanas de la grabación del que supuso el último disco del cuarteto, "Let It Be", con la famosa actuación en la azotea del Apple Building. Un lugar llamado Pepperland, donde reina la paz y la alegría, se ve amenazado por la invasión de los "Malditos Azules" (Blue Meanies). Uno de sus habitantes logra escapar en el submarino amarillo abandonado en el pasado por cuatro muchachos de Liverpool, a los que requerirá para intentar vencer al perverso enemigo.

Si el nombre de los Beatles junto al de Richard Lester estableció un nuevo sistema de filmación de las actuaciones y vivencias musicales pop con películas como "Help" y "A hard day's night", con "Yellow Submarine", los Fab Four fueron protagonistas de una de las películas de animación más imaginativa que ha conocido la historia del cine.

Dirigida por el canadiense George Dunning, la historia típica de "buenos contra malos" está salpicada de situaciones surrealistas y oníricas, con creativas viñetas pop-art repletas de ocurrente imaginería de naturaleza psicodélica. También es destacable el empleo de perspicaz sentido del humor y el viaje simbólico a la imaginación desarrollada en el contexto sonoro y lírico del fenomenal conjunto de Liverpool.

Los amantes de su música, podrán disfrutar en este "Submarino amarillo" con variadas gemas de la banda, entre ellas "Nowhere Man", "Eleanor Rigby","Lucy in the sky with diamonds", "A day in the life" o la estupenda "Hey Bulldog", pieza recuperada en la nueva versión del film que no aparecía en la película original de 1968.
